Interim Juba administration forces capture Kudhaa island
Forces from the interim Juba administration with backing from African Union troops have captured the strategic Island of Kudhaa which is 150 km south of the port city of Kismayu, this according to sources from the interim Juba administration forces.
The commander of the Interim Juba admisirtation forces , General Adan Koojar has told Radio Bar-kulan that the forces took over the control of the town without any fighting. Al Shabaab militia stationed in the area fled the town following heavy aerial bombardments on their bases.
He said the bombardments killed and injured many Al Shabaab militia in the area. According to the commander, the area was an economic lifeline for the militia who used to export charcoal which was of good economic value.Al Shabab took control of the Island in November 2014 from the Interim Juba Administration forces .
The president of the Interim Juba administration, Ahmed Madoobe welcomed the news of the recapture of Kudhaa and sent a congratulatory message to his forces for re-capturing the town.
