Somaliland launches a new Electronic Passport
The self-declared of Somaliland which split from Somalia in 1991 has for the first time on Wednesday launched a new Electronic Passport.
“The passport boosts our soveirgnity and every Somalilander should hold it ensuring our national identity” said Somaliland President Ahmed Mohamed Siilaanyo speaking at a ceremony for launching the passport.
“The citizens who declare themselves to be Somalland nationals will be allowed receiving the new passport “ the president added.
Somaliland authorities said that certain countries including Ethiopia , UAE and Djabouti gave recognition to this passport.
Somaliland sought international recognition as an independent country for the last 23 years .
