Somalia: UN, IGAD envoys in Kismayo for Jubaland parliament inauguration
UN envoy to Somalia Nicholas Kay and IGAD special representative Mohamed Abdi Afay have arrived in the southern port city of Kismayo on Saturday, . Kay and Afay will witness the inauguration of Jubaland parliament- the first since it gained recognition from Mogadishu-based central government in August 2013. Jubaland leader Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) received high-level delegations at Kismayo airport. Clan elders representing Gedo, Middle Juba and Lower Jubba regions are gathering for the selection of MPs in Kismayo. The trip comes a day after Puntland President clinched a memorandum of understanding on vision2016, security and trade with Jubaland. –
