Somali name after their newly born babies to Ordogan and Istanbul
Somali parents started naming after their newly born babies to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkish capital, Istanbul.
This comes after as Turkish government show its willing to continue its assistance to Somalia’s fragile state engulf political unrest since 1991 after the collapse of Somalia’s central government followed by clan fights and severe poitiacal unrest .
Mohamed Farah Abdi is a Mogadishu whose family had a newly born baby girl and he and his wife decided naming their newly delievered girl as Istanbul.
“Turkey is the only country hasted for supporting us and their involvement has produced positive results during the famine in 2011” said Mohamed Farah.
Mogadishu has a lot of newly born babies named after Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish president and as Somali parents insisted Ordogan paid a courageous visit to Mogadishu in August 2011 at the height of famine deciding to open Tuskish embassy in Mogadishu in order give fresh impetus to efforts to establish lasting peace as well as Somalis’ gratitude, its contribution is seen as colossal.
Muna Abdikadir , a mother of four has a two year old son who is called Erdogan and she believes that the widespread Somali gratitude for Turkish humanitarian endeavours and the country’s status as a Muslim and democratic state established .
“ They (Turkey ) are our brothers and supported us …our capital Mogadishu rebuilding was almost done by Turkey…we have to reward these people everything possible “ said Muna.
Turkish hand to Somalia is highly in Mogadishu and in addition to its embassy, there are about a dozen governmental and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as schools , hospitals and other infrastructures renewed by Turkey with assistance in cash provided to the government regularly.
