SOMALI MPs: lawmakers or money makers
Somalia MPs are divided to settle the current political rifts between the Somalia president Hassan Shekh Mohamud and his Premier Abdi-Wali Shekh Ahmed. The MPs held contradictory conferences on the issue as the president’s key ally working to oust the PM from the post.
The office of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud reported to have tabled a motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister amid some members of the Somali Parliament rejected to accept what they termed objectionable.
Last month in a press statement from the President office declined cabinet reshuffle made by the Premier and called removed officials to resume their prior duties and fueled the current Somali political crisis.
Political analysts in the region believe that Somali government is returning back to a new political anxiety again and the recent rifts could delay significant developments achieved by federal government with the international friends.
“Somali lawmakers are not bribe takers we are expecting to hear an apology from the U.N. Special Envoy to Somalia Nicholas Kay for what he said “Prof. Dalha said two days back. On the other hand a number of Somali lawmakers welcomed the envoy’s concerns and allegations on vote exchanging for cash.
I have quoted an unnamed Somali lawmaker source saying that a number of MPs were given large amount of money to oust PM Abdi-wali. “President Hassan allies are holding private talks with the Somali lawmakers to exchange their votes for cash” the source says.
“The parliament are the ones to Take Somalia out of this times of famine and confusion , but its tragedy to realize some are selling their votes not taking heed of the pledge they have taken” Hussein Islan , Somalia political analyst said.
United Nations and EU called Somali government heads to act responsibly until 2016. As it was usually Somali lawmakers are money makers when no-confidence motion approach. They have ousted several premiers including Saacid.
Ex dictator Somali President Siad Barre was overthrown in 1991 and anarchy overtook the east African nation of Somalia. Warlords filled the void of a central government as anarchy reigned and war became the norm.
